Importance of color

July, 2011 | Creative Pains

Earlier today, I visited one of those “rate my design” forums and unintentionally ruffled some feathers. First and foremost; why am I there to begin with? Not sure, maybe it’s for pure entertainment, or I simply want to extend my knowledge and experience to a noobi. Either way, it’s an interesting trip.

Color is vital, almost as important as content in my opinion. I might be wrong, but I seriously doubt it. I frequent sites ranging from devianart.com to espn and the one thing I can assure you is that color is never a distraction at any of those portals. The presentation, or aesthetics of your website should compliment your content, not distract it. If for some unfortunate reason that happens to be an issue, and one is in a position to warn the culprit, grow a pair and let the designer know. How he or she responds is on the individual. Some people don’t see that way and prefer to play the roll of an enabler. I did not think twice about it and told the designer what I think the problem is and why. It did not go over well.

Usually, the first instinct is to defend your design. I was  attacked instead with some passive aggressive jargon that made me laugh. On the flip side of that coin, the designer is at this forum because of uncertainty.  With that being the case, take the criticism in stride. Do not let your feelings get involve. being overly sensitive usually comes with a hefty price.
